Do:
  • Request the appropriate Tier of interpreter (normally Tier 1 for evidential assignments – interviews and statements)
  • Ensure assignments are completed and interpreters provide statements, etc… at the time and as part of the same booking, not leaving and undertaking work later.
  • Check interpreters written work for quality – it is not acceptable to have (as an example) lines left blank in the middle of the body of statements, etc.
  • Ensure jobs are Closed on the booking portal to verify the conclusion of the assignment to ensure efficient payment of interpreters and to comply with audit standards.
  • Sign the interpreter’s timesheet ensuring it matches the times on the booking in portal. This is their record for payment which they need to provide to the contracted supplier (this may be scanned into Niche for audit purposes).
Do not:
  • Leave interpreters by themselves with a suspect or victim or expose them to risk or compromise.
  • Input any personal information identifying individuals into the booking request portal for data protection reasons. This includes not inputting names, M.O’s, etc.
Note: The police pay for a minimum of 1 full hour, then by the minute after that.
